Build A Jig To Mill A Smaller Log On Your Table Saw

Four Sawn Logs And Twigs In The SnowI know we all have thought about it as woodworkers. Why not mill our own lumber and use it to get low cost or free stock for our projects? Some of us have done it, but some weren’t sure exactly how to accomplish it.

Also, when it comes to milling your own lumber, be sure to let it dry out for a period of time. If you don’t the lumber will shrink as the moisture leaves it, and you will have issues of splits, bucklage, and other problems down the road. So keep these things in mind if you want to cut up a tree or log for lumber.

That being said, this is a great video below because it will help you to at least get a concept of how you can build a jig in order to mill some wood stock with the basic woodworking power tools. Izzy builds a jig here that is for shorter logs, but you can build them longer if you get a tree that has longer limbs. Just adjust it to what you have.
